Care for Puppies & Kittens in Sonora
It's fun to take home a new kitten or puppy! This adorable and fluffy addition to the family is helpless in the way they make everyone smile.
As exciting as this is, there is also some important business to take care of in terms of veterinary care during the first year of your new pet's life.
Your veterinarian will establish a health care plan that is customized to meet your puppy or kitten's needs during their first year. Your vet will also give you lots of guidance and support along the way!
Your Pet’s First Appointment
Ideally, you should bring your puppy to our pet hospital for their first veterinary appointment when they are six weeks old, and kittens when they are approximately eight weeks.
At this first visit, your furry pet will get a comprehensive physical examination to review their overall health, we will check for signs of any congenital defects, and look for external parasites.
Your vet will also give your kitten or puppy deworming medications for hookworm and roundworms, and administer their first round of vaccinations.
More About Vaccines & Prevention
Finally, for kittens, our vets will conduct a blood test to look for feline leukemia and feline immunodeficiency virus.
Follow-up Appointments
Kittens and Puppies should see the vet 3 to 4 times for an appointment between the ages of 6 and 16 weeks. These visits give our vets the opportunity to assess your pet's overall health and to administer vaccines on schedule.
